DCI worked with the inmates who formed and cast all of the exterior precast wall panels on Delaware Correctional Grounds. The facility houses 400 inmates in a “dog bone” configuration in two tiers. There is a central, interior control pod with total block visibility, allowing the prison to cut roaming security personnel down from four to one. The facility also required added physical and high-tech security services.
DCI was recognized by the Construction Management Association of America, and the Delaware Contractors Association, which named the Prison Industries Building (Sussex Correction Facility) as the recipient of the 1999 Project of the Year award.
